The former Barking Power Station site has outline permission for 11,800 homes together with associated commercial/retail development. Barking Riverside is preparing the land and installing the necessary infrastructure to provide developers with serviced parcels for them to build the homes. Ardent has designed the necessary strategic infrastructure including access roads and drainage to enable the first parcels to be passed to the selected housing developers in a fully serviced state, and continues to assist in the coordination of the utilities and the provision of the off-site sewer requisition and foul pumping station to serve the entire Stage 2 & 3’s 7000 units.
To date Stage 1 has almost been completed with 1,500 homes either built and occupied or close to completion. Stages 2 and 3 consists of a further 7,000 homes and has had significant earthworks undertaken to treat and raise the land in preparation and the first phases of the strategic infrastructure including the access roads and drainage are being constructed. In parallel, a 13-form entry secondary school is being constructed ready to open in September 2017. Construction of the first parcel of 300 homes is due to start in Autumn 2017.
