Job Summary

Ardent Consulting Engineers specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from initial concept, through planning and delivery on site. A key element to the role will be the understanding and managing of the design process from inception to detail design and construction of new surface water management/flood alleviation projects, drainage strategies (foul and surface water inclusive of SuDS schemes) and producing and checking Flood Risk Assessments. The Water Team specialises in providing advice to both public and private sectors clients on planning and design issues relating to the above.

Principal Accountabilities

You will have a minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience and your principal role will be the day to day running of your own projects. The role will require you to prepare Flood Risk Assessments, undertake conceptual and detail design of flood protection measures and drainage strategies, leading to planning applications or construction drawings. You can expect to be active on a number of projects / client accounts at any given time. You will be expected to mentor and develop junior engineers together with client facing. You will assist and separately produce fee proposals and verify work. A key element of your experience will be the design of flood alleviation schemes, foul and surface water/SuDS systems using the WinDES software package. Experience in the use of Civil 3D or PDS with highways design and earthworks strategies would be an advantage. MAP-Info and or QGIS experience would also be useful. You will report to an Associate or Director

Preferred Qualifications/Education

You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering or appropriate science or equivalent commercial experience and responsibility. You will either have or be approaching CEng (MICE, or CIWEM) status or equivalent commercial experience.

Preferred Competencies/Skills

  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments in Flood Zone 1, 2 and 3;
  • Undertake conceptual and detail design of flood alleviation works;
  • Preparation of complex foul and surface water drainage strategies (which incorporate SuDS techniques) to a detailed design standard (suitable for outline/detailed planning and s104 submission);
  • Expert knowledge of WinDes software Package;
  • Preparation of water chapters for Environmental Statements;
  • Project Management; and
  • You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.

Knowledge:

Ideally you will be well versed in Current Policy and design guidance (NPPF, PPG, FWMA 2010, WIA 1991, LDA 1991, SuDS Manual, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Sewers for Adoption etc.).

Previous Experience:

Probably from a consultancy background with a heavy bias on towards private sector work.

Job Summary

Ardent Consulting Engineers specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning, through to full implementation. A key element to the role will be undertaking foul and surface water drainage strategies in conjunction with the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments. A good understanding of SuDS is also critical for this role. An understanding of the design process from inception to construction of drainage and flood alleviation schemes will be critical in the discharging your duties in this role. The Water Team specialises in providing advice to both public and private sectors clients on planning and design issues relating to Flood Risk, as well as the detailed design of Flood Protection, SuDS and Sewerage systems on Residential, Retail, Industrial, Commercial Developments and Public schemes throughout the UK.

Principal Accountabilities

You will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience and your role will include the day to day running of your projects. The role will require you to prepare Flood Risk Assessments, conceptual design of flood protection measures and drainage strategies, leading to planning applications and or construction drawings. You will be expected to undertake site visits from time to time to inform projects. This is a client-facing role and you can expect to be active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time. You will be expected to support senior members of staff as well as checking and verifying technical work. You will assist with and separately produce fee proposals. A key element of your experience will be the production of FRA and the design of foul and surface water/SuDS systems together with implementing SuDS using the Microdrainage software package. Experience in the use of InfoWorks/ICM/Flood Modeller/QGIS would be an advantage. You will report to a Technical Director or Director

Preferred Competencies/Skills

  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments in Flood Zone 1, 2 and 3;
  • Preparation of complex foul and surface water drainage strategies (which incorporate SuDS techniques - (suitable for outline/detailed planning and s104 submission);
  • Expert knowledge of Microdrainage software package;
  • Conceptual and detail design of flood mitigation works;
  • Preparation of water chapters for Environmental Statements;
  • Project Management; and
  • You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
A knowledge of river modelling software together with MAP-Info and or QGIS would be advantageous. The design of sewers using Microdrainage (or similar software packages) together with experience in applying Sewers for Adoption/Sewerage Sector Guidance and other drainage guidance would will be expected.

Knowledge:

Ideally you will be well versed in the preparation of drawings for Flood Risk Assessments and aware of Current Policy (NPPF, PPG, FWMA 2010, WIA 1991 etc,), Sewerage Strategies, and S104 Agreements.

Noise & Vibration

Talent acquisition

For our Noise & Vibration positions, you will need a degree in acoustics or a related discipline, be a Member or Associate member of the Institute of Acoustics and have relevant experience in a consultancy environment.  Your background should include experience in residential, commercial, environmental acoustics and you will have a robust knowledge of relevant policies and standards applicable to planning, Environmental Impact Assessment and possibly to detailed design.  You should be conversant with acoustics modelling and standard Microsoft packages.

Air Quality

For our Air Quality positions, you will need a relevant degree or masters and ideally two years’ experience. Your background should be in air quality, with particular experience in roads modelling although experience in point source modelling, dust and odour assessment are also advantageous. Experience using GIS and ADMS software is a minimum.
